The Australian Botanic Gardens is the most popular visitor attraction of the Camden district. It displays over 4000 of the most exotic plants and flowers known in the world. The garden consists of a multitude of beautiful plants and flowers, stunning sculptures and great picnic areas all set in 416 hectares of magnificent hills and lakes. The Australian Botanic Gardens is the ideal venue for stunning wedding locations, exciting mountain bike riding, spectacular bird life at Lake Nadungamba and picturesque picnics. An informative and enjoyable way to see the gardens is to join one of the many free guided tours. The Garden is also home to the Stolen Generations Memorial Walk. This moving experience acknowledges those affected from the 1900’s ‘Stolen Generation’ and is a powerful and symbolic place to reflect on these events in our society.

The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living is a not-for-profit, community driven organisation supported by local Macarthur Councils and the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust. It is primarily an educational facility and model for sustainable living. The Centre aims to celebrate Macarthur’s cultural diversity and explore sustainable living options with activities such as tours, festivals, markets, workshops, research, art, food, gardening and music.

Mount Annan supports a number of local sports within the community with teams in Netball, Swimming and Cricket. The Mount Annan Swimming club is hosted at Mount Annan Leisure Centre which is owned by the YMCA with swimming season from October through to August. Their cricket team is a part of the Cobbity-Narellan Cricket Club and Birriwa Reserve is home to Mount Annan’s loyal and dedicated local soccer team – Mount Annan Mustangs Football Club.

Dining and Take away

The Mount Annan Hotel, located at 12 Main Street, is a favourite dining place, loved by the locals. Featuring an open plan sports bar, casual dining area, large outdoor balcony and kids’ corner, the Mount Annan Hotel is the perfect place to catch up with family and friends. Choose from delicious pizzas to share to the pub classics such as schnitzels and rump steaks.

The Australian Botanic Garden provides a number of dining experiences for visitors including Melaleuca House. Open from Mon – Sun until 4:00pm, Malaleuca House is set amongst well-tended gardens and rolling hills and serve weekend breakfast, gourmet burgers, pastas, salads, great coffee and more. Find a cosy spot to dine indoors or outdoors or in their casual courtyard area. The Gardens also offer 8 picnic sites, set in some of the most popular and picturesque locations in the Botanic Gardens. Check out their website as some picnic areas require bookings.

Experience the most popular food, beer and wine festival in the Macarthur region, the AnnanRoma. This community event in April showcases the best food from restaurants within the region as well as the freshest local produce available. Stroll along ‘Eat Street’ the main avenue of delicacies stretching along the central circuit of the Botanic Garden from the playground to the entry of Lakeside Lawn where visitors can find their patch of grass and chill out to some great sounds.

Mount Annan has many shopping facilities with two notable shopping malls in the area, Mount Annan Marketplace and Mount Annan Central.

Mount Annan Marketplace is located at 11-13 Main Street. It opened in 2001 originally with 10 retail outlets and extended in 2005 with today, more than 30 specialty retail stores residing there. Enjoy a modern shopping experience and choose from a selection of women’s and men’s fashion , home and gift wares and services including a hairdresser and masseuses. Prior to being built, this site used to be the location of Narellan drive-in, and after that a golf driving range.

Mount Annan Central opened in May 2009 and is predominantly occupied by Coles supermarkets and is located on the corner of Waterworth drive and Holdsworth drive. You will find homewares, restaurants, cafes as well as a car wash located at the Northern end of the site. Adjacent to Mount Annan Marketplace is Mount Annan Shopping Village which opened in 2002 which resides dental, eyecare, veterinary clinic, medical centre, launderette and more.

Further to the major shopping malls Mount Annan holds weekend markets on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 8am to 1pm at the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable living, 1 Mount Annan Drive, Mount Annan (just off Narellan Road). The Macarthur Farmers Markets display fresh produce from local farmers and have been arranged by the Macarthur Regional Farmers Market Association.
